The Choir

Collegium Musicum’s main choir currently has over  100 members who, throughout the years, have performed various pieces, from Britten’s War Requiem to the intimate Ave Maris Stella by Bardos, and the Chichester Psalms by Bernstein, to the Quatre motets pour le temps de noël by Poulenc. Each semester, CM puts on two concerts in which the main choir usually performs a large piece with orchestral accompaniment and one or more a cappella pieces.

Since March of 2019, the choir is conducted by Gerrit Maas and, during rehearsals, he is supported by our pianist David Dekker.

Future programs

For our upcoimg concerts in June we are currently working on Brahms 2nd symfonie, Jesu meine Freude by Bach and Te Deum by Dvorak.

In the fall we will play Ode to Death by Holst, Death on the Hills by Elgar, Danse Macabre by Saint-Saëns, Isle of the Dead by Rachmaninov and Towards the Unknown Region by Vaughan Williams. For summer 2024 there is Rakastava by Sibelius, Søvnen by Nielsen, Symfonie no. 6 by Sibelius en parts from ‘Peer Gynt’ by Grieg on the programme.

Would you like to sing along with us? There will be open rehearsals at the start of next semester where you will be given the opportunity to get a feel for what it’s like to rehearse with CM! If you have any questions or would like to visit our open rehearsals, send an email to the Choir Commissioner at [email protected].

Rehearsals

The choir rehearses every Monday evening from 20:00 to 22:30. The rehearsals are in the Lipsius building, in room 2.33. You can also find us via the contact page! In addition to the normal rehearsals, there is a rehearsal weekend every semester which is occasionally held at an external location with additional fun activities alongside the rehearsals. We also go on tour once every two years!
