The Choir

Collegium Musicum’s main choir currently has over  100 members who, throughout the years, have performed various pieces, from Britten’s War Requiem to the intimate Ave Maris Stella by Bardos, and the Chichester Psalms by Bernstein, to the Quatre motets pour le temps de noël by Poulenc. Each semester, CM puts on two concerts in which the choir usually performs a large piece with orchestral accompaniment and one or more a cappella pieces.

Since March of 2019, the choir is conducted by Gerrit Maas and, during rehearsals, he is supported by our pianist David Dekker.

Future programs

You can look at the concerts page to see what CM has played in the past and will play in the future.

In the fall of 2024 Collegium Musicum will play a beautiful bird programme, consisting of the Firebird Suite (Stravinsky), the overture to De Vogels (Diepenbrock), Trois Chansons (Ravel), Sous bois (Boulanger) and Schwanensang (Schreker), and in March of 2025 we will play the spectacular Requiem by Verdi! For the summer of 2025, Noches en los Jardines España (De Falla), Nocturnes (Debussy), Sécheresses (Poulenc) and a selection from Hymne au soleil (Boulanger) are on our programme.

Do you want to join us? Every first three weeks of September and January, we have open rehearsals. Do you have any questions, or would you like to sing along earlier? Send an email to the Commissioner of the Choir: [email protected].

Rehearsals

The choir rehearses every Monday evening from 20:00 to 22:30. The rehearsals are in the Lipsius building, in room 2.33. You can also find us via the contact page! In addition to the normal rehearsals, there is a rehearsal weekend every semester which is occasionally held at an external location with additional fun activities alongside the rehearsals. We also go on tour once every two years!
