The Choir

Collegium Musicum’s main choir currently has over  100 members who, throughout the years, have performed various pieces, from Britten’s War Requiem to the intimate Ave Maris Stella by Bardos, and the Chichester Psalms by Bernstein, to the Quatre motets pour le temps de noël by Poulenc. Each semester, CM puts on two concerts in which the main choir usually performs a large piece with orchestral accompaniment and one or more a cappella pieces.

Since March of 2019, the choir is conducted by Gerrit Maas and, during rehearsals, he is supported by our pianist David Dekker.

Future programs

In November of 2022, the choir will be performing the Quattro Pezzi Sacri by Verdi alongside CM’s symphony orchestra. This fabulous collection of Italian-, and Latin-sung pieces includes: Ave Maria, Stabat Mater, Laudi alla Vergine Maria, and Te Deum. While intrinsically ecclesiastic pieces, Verdi’s operatic flair remains far from absent!

After our current project, both the choir and the orchestra will move on to rehearse Vaughan Williams’ colossal masterpiece A Sea Symphony which will be performed in Amare on the 11th of March!

Would you like to sing along with us? There will be open rehearsals at the start of next semester where you will be given the opportunity to get a feel for what it’s like to rehearse with CM! If you have any questions or would like to visit our open rehearsals, send an email to the Choir Commissioner at [email protected].

The choir rehearses every Monday evening from 20:00 to 22:30. The rehearsals are in the Lipsius building, in room 2.33. You can also find us via the contact page! In addition to the normal rehearsals, there is a rehearsal weekend every semester which is occasionally held at an external location with additional fun activities alongside the rehearsals. We also go on tour once every two years!
